Serve With Gladness

Posted by Gary on May 8, 2006

I just got back from a weekend with John. Three great churches in three different states. 5 services over the weekend.

I am so blessed to be able to see how different churches do church. I can almost always tell what the church is going to be like within 5 minutes of meeting the person that picks us up.

The churches are full of people who live Psalm 100:2. They “serve with gladness”. I believe that it all starts with great leaders. Leaders who model a glad servant heart. Leaders who love what they do and are always full of life, joy, and gladness no matter the circumstance.

Sorry not very deep but something that is becoming more and more obvious every time I travel.

Love you all.

Faith is the Fuel

Posted by Gary on April 7, 2006

As I used to think about faith I would look at Hebrews 11:1, now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen, and think, ok, faith is substance, faith is evidence, but what is it? What does it look like?

Then I read Mark 11:24, Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

As I was considering this whole concept it hit me. Faith is. Both, FAITH is, and faith IS. When you are standing in faith for something and someone says “I thought you were believing for healing, why are you still sick?” you can say “my faith is the evidence.”

I know it’s a hard concept and one you have to get personal revelation on. I have been thinking about this for years. Maybe I’m just thick headed.

Here is another way it works:
You can put money in the offering or you can sow a seed.
You can say something nice to someone or you can speak life into their soul.
You can speak words into the air or you can pray the prayer of faith.

The difference is when we add our Faith.

Darlene Zschech once said “the faith journey is not cross your fingers and hope for the best. It is real, the fullness of Christ locked into us that we can use.” You see faith is not the shallow “hope” something good will happen. Faith is being fully convinced and persuaded of a thing. No doubt.

James 1:6-7
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

You must settle in your heart that the very DNA of God is generosity and faithfulness and that he wants you to have good things. Romans 8:32

Mark 11:23
I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.

In my mind it all comes back to two things. II Corinthians 5:17 and Romans 12:2 I’ll let you look those up and think about those two things for awhile.

Thank you again for your consideration. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Actions Matter

Posted by Gary on March 19, 2006

The LORD is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.
1 Sam 2:3 NKJV

Where I am going ultimately is that faith operating through love is the most important thing but I don’t want to diminish our actions. Actions definitely matter.

One of my favorite proverbs is:
An empty stable stays clean-but there is no income from an empty stable. Prov 14:4 TLB

We can gain all knowledge and understanding, and that is ok, but ministry demands that our stables get dirty. If your carpet has mud on it and there are fingerprints on your stuff then you know you’re doing the work of the ministry. We must “do”.

I believe that our doing is an outgrowth of our being which is a whole topic unto itself consider Luke 10:28-42. So if your doing out of religious duty or obligation; don’t stop what your doing, change your reason for doing it.

Eternity

Posted by Gary on March 15, 2006

I know I promised something else but we were talking about this today and I thought it would be good to post it:

Jesus talked about 2 ages: this present evil age (Gal 1:4) which is the kingdom of satan and the age to come (Mt 12:32, Mk 10:30), Paul talked about “the powers of the age to come (Heb 6:5) which is the kingdom of God. Theologians call it the now and the not yet. The two ages are separated by “the day of the Lord” (Joel 2:1-2, Acts 2:20) when Jesus returns.

Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is here (Mt 3:2) talking about himself. Every time someone is healed or raised from the dead or any miracle it is a piece of eternity where there will be no sickness or tears. We are living in the now, Mt 3:2, and the not yet Mt 12:32).

All I was saying is if you think about it eternity is not that far away. It is one second from right now. So when we pray by faith we are bringing eternity into the now (Mt 6:10).

It is a matter of the prayer of faith. Faith sees, faith speaks, faith acts, faith stands, faith gives praise, and faith rests. We have to settle things in our hearts. We can’t be tossed by every wind and wave (James 1:6-7) we have to come boldly by faith to the thrown of grace (Heb 4:16). Having a picture of eternity and what it means to live in the now and the not yet helps faith to see; which is the beginning of the whole process.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

I Am Not Dead

Posted by Gary on March 13, 2006

Sorry for my long absence. things have been amazing and much has happened over the last year. All of it a testimony to God’s faithfulness and goodness.

There is a lot percolating in my mind and I have felt a stirring to begin again my blogging.

Thanks to those of you who have commented. I guess it never occured to me that people would come here rugularly. I have a lot on my mind regarding our actions activated by our faith and our faith being supercharged when you add the “agape” love that is shared abroad in the hearts of every believer.

I intend to work that out here and I would love to hear your comments as always.

Thanks again for your love and encouragement. I look forward to getting back to it.

be blessed.

The Language of Heaven

Posted by Gary on February 24, 2005

I believe that one of the languages of heaven is repentance.

It’s not just for the non-neliever. When we humble ourselves and give up our own agenda repentance is the way to do that.

Look at all the people who exclaimed “I have sinned” Pharoagh, Baalam, Judas. None of these are presumably in heaven.

Saul is a great example of selfish repentance. After his disobedience he exclaiming “I have sinned” and the next words to Samuel were “yet honor me now before the elders of my people”. (1 Samuel 15:30) Saul was repentant because he wanted to avoid punishment.

Now compare that to David when confronted by the prophet Nathan regarding his sin with Bathsheba. David exclaimed “I have sinned” Nathan’s reply is “The Lord has put away your sin” (2 Samuel 12:13) What’s the difference?

Psalm 51:4 “That You may be found just when You speak and blameless when You judge.”

David wanted God’s reputation to be great. David knew he had given the enemies of God a reason to blaspheme. (2 Samuel 12:14)

True repentance bears fruit and brings a change. There is so much we could bring out of these two stories. Suffice it to say, If you want to draw near to God; come with true repentance. A change of mind, a turning away from old behaviour to the point of destroying the old way of thinking.

When we die to self and come back to the point where we walked astray we are speaking the language of heaven. Draw near to God and HE WILL draw near to you. James 4:8

If You Love Me

Posted by Gary on January 18, 2005

This wekend while traveling with John I got a cool revelation.

John 14:15 says; “If you love Me, (you will) keep My commandments. NKJV

We could have a whole discussion on the difference between being restrained by the law and being liberated by the law and maybe we will do that sometime but for this entry I want to make a different point.

John 15:14 says this; You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. NKJV

The word “commandments” in 14:15 in the greek means “precepts” Websters defines it this way; a principle intended especially as a general rule of action. In other words things that are known because they have been stated or written down. We’ll say God’s Word.

The word “command” in 15:14 in the greek means “to give charge” Websters says to give instruction.

So Jesus is saying that we need to obey God’s word as well as God’s voice. What is God asking you to do today? Now be careful. God is more concerned with who we are than what we do. He does not “need” us to “do” anything. He wants relationship above all else. So this is not about earning anything. This is about friendship with God.

The first thing we need to know is that God is a good God and worhty of our trust. When we understand that and read everything in that context. We will happily live according to the word of God and respond immediately when He speaks to us.

Psalm 25:14 in the NLT says Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear Him. Fear in this case means to honor and respect. We show that by keeping His commands and by responding when He speaks.

We serve an amazing God who wants the best for us, John 10:10, as well as many others. So take the time to listen to His voice and learn to trust Him. You will not be dissapointed.

See you soon.

Living in the Promised Land

Posted by Gary on December 28, 2004

Living in the “Promised Land” is about possessing.

“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your supplies ready. Three days from
now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the
LORD your God is giving you for your own.'” Joshua 1:11

Now if you know this story you know that they didn’t just stroll in and set up tents and start receiving the harvest and the fruit. They had to conquer, press in, trust God, and live like possessors not guests.

When we made our move to Colorado Springs we had to conquer, press in, trust God, and live like possessors not guests. We will continue to live like this.

We know that we are exactly where we should be right now. God is so good and his provision has been, is, and will continue to be amazing! We are confident that seeing our dreams come true is through serving the local church and that is what we have been doing and will continue to do as long as we have breath. We know that this is always God’s will.

Stay planted in your church. That is how you will find the perfect will of God for your life.

Faithful One

Posted by Gary on September 11, 2004

Have you ever been in a place where one day you felt like finally everything was falling into place and the next day you felt like everything was falling apart?

Sometimes when we are walking by faith and trusting in the promises of God we begin to try to work out all of the details and the way things should look. God however has His own ways and His own time frame. He is always more interested in our character than our comfort. I know this is very cliched but also very true.

We find ourselves in that place where we thought everything was set and know we sit here wondering what hit us and what to do next.

Psalm 89 talks about the heavens worshiping God for His miracles and the angels worshipping God for His faithfulness.

We have walked in and experienced Gods undieing faithfulness and we will not be shaken. We are still human and sometimes we get weak but we will stand on the promises of God’s word and trust in His faithfulness confident that He wants good things for us more than we want good things for us.

There are no hands that I want to be in except Gods. He is my creator and my intimate friend. I will trust and follow and obey no matter what the cost because I am confident that He who began a good work in me will bring it to completion.

He is faithful!
